Abandoned kittens are becoming an increasing challenge in the Newry area with the Pet Connection store in the city being the recipient of two different abandoned families of kittens in this past week.

The first litter of kittens were found in a cardboard box early last week outside their shop on the Dublin Road in Newry. The following day they were informed of a second litter in a box just off a country road in Glenn and they went out and rescued them. Sadly the store has had quite a lot of experience with kittens being abandoned outside their shops and around the local area. The latest family are only six and a half weeks old and would have been very vulnerable if not rescued by the store.

Speaking of the issue Nikki from Pet Connection said "Over the years we've sadly had a lot of experience with kittens being abandoned outside our shops and around the local area, which is a real shame because we offer a free kitten rehoming service where we ensure the kittens are kept safe and healthy until we can find them a great new home. "

The message they would give to anyone is "If you aren't going to be a responsible owner and have your cat neutered, don't get a cat. It really is very simple. There are too many unwanted kittens to justify letting your cat have even a single litter."
