Jimmy Burns is the recipient of the inaugural Musical Icon Award as part of next weeks Iúr Cinn Fleadh. Jimmy will receive his award at a public concert on Thursday 7 September in Bellinis, Newry. 

At 93 years of age, Jimmy has devoted his life to playing and teaching traditional Irish music. Hundreds of young people can credit Jimmy as their main influence in their early musical journeys. Many of Jimmys past pupils have gone on to carve out professional full time careers in music. Jimmy himself has played with many groups and ceili bands over the years. Amongst these was the infamous Jackie Hurst ceili band.

Jimmy himself is known throughout Ireland and further a field for his musical talent. His own sons, Kieran, Paddy and Mark together with his grandchildren have followed in his footsteps with many playing and teaching music currently.

Jimmy will receive his award next Thursday 7th September in Bellinis at 8pm.

The night promises to be one filled with music, stories and craic as Many of Jimmys past pupils, musical friends and family will be present to see him receive his award amongst a feast of great local musical talent on the night.
