Once again Newry is taking part in the International event, Culture Night, on Friday 19th September.

Artists, creators and local talent will take over the new performance space in Marcus Square for an evening of interaction, exhibition and performance.  This is Newry’s second Culture Night event, and those who enjoyed last year’s evening will hopefully return for another great night’s entertainment

Culture Night Newry is for everyone to enjoy. All Culture Night events are free to partake in. There will be a clear focus on family-friendly programming which we hope will succeed in attracting an unprecedented number of families as well as people of all ages and backgrounds.

Highlights of this year’s programme include The Community Choir: sixty local singers tuning up for an uplifting experience in song!  Favourites from last year who will return are Ballinliss Forge Blacksmiths, Louis The Entertainer, street animation by Babcock and Bobbins, late-night art workshops in Sticky Fingers Art House and a host of others.

Leading the charge for local businesses is Catriona from My Aunt Jane’s on Hill Street, who has organised a literary event to tie in with the shenanigans.

Hot on the heels of Iur Cinn Fleadh, Culture Night promises to raise the profile of cultural events right in the city centre…who knows how this will develop over the years. Activities will be happening in Marcus Square from 5pm – 9pm.

In just six years, Culture Night Belfast (CNB), has become one of the highlights of Belfast’s cultural calendar. It began in 2009, following in the footsteps of Culture Night Dublin, with the aim of bringing a new and exciting cultural showcase to Belfast, where all artists, performers, organisations and venues could platform their creations to a wide audience. From a programme of 100 events in the first year, and an audience of 15,000, last year’s programme saw over 220 events and an audience of 30,000 people, all within a six hour period.
