The Community campaigning group Newry 2020 held it’s first meeting in January 2014 and a year later they continue their campaign at a pace.

They meet for the first time in 2015 on Monday the 12th of January at 7.30pm in the Sugar Supper Club, Sugar Island. New faces are always welcome as are the regulars.

In 2014 the group held the very successful Festival of Windows in June and the Iur Cinn Fleadh in September and plans are already in full swing to hold these festivals this year with Iur Cinn Fleadh taking place from the 12th to the 14th of September 2015.

2014 also saw the group campaigning tirelessly for a Public Park at the Albert Basin, lobbying the council, visiting a similar project in Belfast and drawing up proposals for the site.

A petition which has already attracted over 1500 signatures can be read at and if you haven’t already signed it please take 30 seconds out and do so. Many years after our City status was granted Newry still hasn’t got a proper park.

Monday nights meeting will include a brainstorming session with the intention of finding out what you all want for your city so if you want to get involved please go along.
