As the autumn nights draw in, Newry is looking forward to welcoming a new programme of arts events at Sean Hollywood Arts Centre and Newry Town Hall.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Casey said, “I am pleased to see the terrific line-up that we have coming this autumn. There is definitely something for everyone, whether you want to see some of our finest local talent or the best in professional music and theatre—Newry is definitely the place to be.”

First up on Friday 18 October, the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre will be the venue for ‘A Night of Americana—Songs and Stories’. Local Hilltown singer and songwriter Matt McGinn will be joined on stage by two contemporaries Jesse Terry, a former grand prize winner of the John Lennon Song Writing Contest, and British singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Emma Stevens.

The show will bring together some of the most highly regarded Americana singer song writers together on the same stage for the first time, blending the traditions of America, England and Northern Ireland. This musical journey will run the gamut from foot tappers, to barn stompers and delicate tear jerkers.

A highlight of the autumn programme will be ‘The Elvis Spectacular Show’ on Thursday 7 November in Newry Town Hall. The show is fronted by multi award winning 2010 European Elvis Champion, Ciaran Houlihan. Ciaran, who is accompanied by the all-female group The Sweet Sensations, will celebrate the music of this legendary and iconic performer.

Music is not the only thing on offer this autumn in Newry. With Halloween just around the corner, the perennial favourite, ‘Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde’ will be coming back to Sean Hollywood on Thursday 24 October, performed by Isosceles Theatre Company.

To delight the younger arts enthusiasts, the Amadan Ensemble will bring their theatre piece ‘Pink and Blue’ to Sean Hollywood on Saturday 26 October. This non-verbal show, with Jennifer Jordan and Jude Quinn, for children aged 4 and upwards, explores what it means to be a boy or a girl and whether it is all that different.

For those young people working on GCSE/A Levels, a porcelain workshop, with Amy Mackle, will take place on Saturday 9 November at 10am at the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre. This session is designed to aid students in the exploratory and experimentation parts of their exam projects.

These are only some of the events, exhibitions, lectures, classes and activities available; all details are in the new autumn brochure which is available to download from
