Newry Shamrocks GAC will be the setting for an amazing night of music, craic and friendship with many special guests for the launch of 'Raised on Songs and Stories' – a wonderful collection of stories, poems and songs from the Newry area by Benny McKay

Benny McKay sadly passed away last year after a short illness. He was a musician, a poet and raconteur who was highly regarded in the community of South Down and South Armagh. He was a keen hurler with Newry Shamrocks, past Captain and Chairman of Cloghogue Pitch and Putt and a founding member of the U3A in Newry.

Benny was an unashamedly warm, passionate and emotional writer and a downright thoroughly decent human being. A colourful collection of his work has now been published in a book that captures his stories, imagination and memories that reflect a passion for life that lives on.

Benny's book 'Raised on Songs and Stories' will receive its official launch on Friday April 12th in the Newry Shamrock's GAC and all are warmly welcome. The night for Benny promises music, craic and friendship with special guests including members of Crubeen and musicians from throughout the area. Members of the U3A will be there and the Newry Writers’ Group too. It will also raise funds for pancreatic cancer research.

Friday, April 12th in the Shamrocks at 8.30pm promises to be an excellent celebration of entertainment and memories as we gather again, to be immersed once more, in the spirit and the goodness of Benny McKay.
