Newry continued to be affected by the war with many local people reported missing or dead this week in 1917.

Colonel J.W.H. Houghton R.A.M.C officially reported wounded, is a son of Mr Henry Houghton, Monkstown, and a nephew of Mr. Barker, Rostrevor.

 Capt D.S.A. Kimm, M.C., The King's Shropshire Light Infantry, wounded. is a nephew of Miss M'Kimm, Roxborough Terrace, Rostrevor. He was recently awarded the Military Cross for gallantry in action.

 Lieutenant Samuel Taylor, Inniskilling Fusiliers, who was a native of Mountnorris, Co. Armagh, and had been employed in the linen business in Belfast, has been killed in action.

 We regret to learn that Trooper Peter Loughran, of the Irish Guards, whose father resides at Queen Street, Newry, is reported missing, and fears for the worst are entertained. Prior to enlistment, the highly respected young soldier was in the employment of the Newry Mineral Water Company, and among all who knew him the greatest sorrow is felt.

 Marine-engineer Alex. Montgomery, who lost his life as the result of the torpodoing of his boat on the 6th ult., was a younger brother of Mr. W.J. Montgomery, who is in charge of Messrs, Duncan, Alderdice & Co's branch establishment in Monaghan Street, Newry. Mr. Montgomery's son, Quarter-master Sergeant Robert G. Montgomery, Manchester Regiment, is officially reported to be in hospital in Mesopotamia.

 The following soldiers are officially reported missing, and not wounded, as previously stated:- 21405 Privat W. Greer, Royal Irish Fusiliers (Newtownhamilton), 25181 Private J.Harte, Royal Irish Fusiliers (Newry), 24053 Private A.M.W. Murdock, Royal Irish Fusiliers (Newry). 367 Private T. Magee, Royal Irish Rifles (Rathfriland), is officially reported wounded, 24150, Private T McElroy, Royal Irish Fusiliers (Crankey, near Newry) is officially reported wounded.
