Newry Branch Gaelic League has just issued a new full-colour poster of 50 bilingual Newry place-name (street and road) signs.

The poster promotes bilingual public signage and encourages residents in Newry to request bilingual signs from Newry and Mourne District Council.
Extensive residential parts of the town already have bilingual street and road signs and it is relatively easy to have new signs erected where there is local approval.
The public signage links with the national drive to make the Irish language more visible and ties in with Líofa’s new billboard promotional campaign.
The new poster will be available at a nominal donation from The Currency Exchange 12 Hill Street from this week and would make a useful small gift and link to home for those Newry people now living and working abroad.
Two Líofa Saturday events, one for absolute beginners and the other for those seeking conversational Irish only, are scheduled in the near future.
The first is an Absolute Beginners’ Introduction to Irish (looking at available self-tuition resources) and it will take place in the Gaeláras on Saturday 29th March.
The new term for Irish Language classes begins on Monday and Tuesday coming at the Gaeláras
