Bus Eireann have announced that they will no longer operate on the X1/ X5 Belfast/Newry to Dublin route from Sunday 15 November. However, Translink remain committed to operating the Belfast to Dublin Goldline coach service to maintain North/South connections and links to Dublin Airport. From 15 November there will be just 7 return trips a day with none running through the night due to Covid-19 remaining a challenge. would advise Passengers to check the timetable details on Translink’s website or to call them if you want to be sure of your departure time.

From Sunday 15 November 2020, all services between Dublin and Belfast will be operated exclusively by Translink. This will apply to the following routes:

  • Route X1: Dublin – Dublin Airport – Newry – Banbridge – Sprucefield – Belfast
  • Route X5: Dublin – Dublin Airport - Newry

Bus Éireann or Expressway vehicles will no longer operate on these routes and tickets will no longer be available for sale at the Bus Eireann or Expressway websites. Customers wishing to purchase tickets for travel on these routes in the future should visit the Translink website at WWW.TRANSLINK.CO.UK

Monday to Sunday: Newry 0710, 0740, 0940, 1140, 1340, 1540, 1940

Dublin to Newry

Monday to Sunday Dublin Busaras to Newry 0915, 1115, 1315, 1515, 1615,1815, 2130 (Dublin Airport pick up time 20 minutes after these times)

Just seven return journeys will serve Belfast, Sprucefield, Banbridge and Newry each day, including an additional Mon to Sun morning X5 departure from Newry to Dublin at 0710 and a night-time 2130 X5 service from Dublin to Newry. A Translink spokesperson said "Given current restrictions and current passenger numbers we are operating a reduced timetable. We will continue to monitor this route and will revise the timetable in line with future demand."
