This Saturday sees the culmination of many weeks of work by local children competing in a Newry 2020  competition to design their ideal Newry city park in the Minecraft world-building game. The event takes place at the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre and all are welcome to come along.

While the Council's Park Working Group has been in suspension during the election period, Newry 2020, the group behind the popular park campaign, have been busy working on the exciting community engagement project.

The organisation has been partnering with local primary schools and almost 20 teams and over 60 children have been working hard to bring their most imaginative ideas for the Albert Basin Park to life.

Children will present their Minecraft vision for Newry City Park this Saturday in the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre.

Newry 2020 member Jonny McCullagh, said, "The park project has always been about community engagement, and we think the Council will be blown away by the children's enthusiasm and creativity. If we are building something to improve the lives of children and young people, it's important they have a say in how it is designed."

Selected teams will be presenting their Minecraft designs to local councillors at the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre this Saturday 25th May between 10am and 12 noon.

Members of the public are invited to come along and view the children's work, experience a virtual reality tour of the designs, and share their ideas about how the project can meet the needs of the local community.
