Following the Stormont Executive's announcement of significant new measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has been considering the impact on its leisure and sport services and the changes below will come into effect this Friday.

Details where new restrictions will apply to leisure services:

  • Newry, Kilkeel and Down Leisure Centre will close from 9pm Thursday 26 November 2020.
  • St Colman’s Sports Complex (including Athletics Track) will close from 10pm Thurs 26 November 2020.
  • All council play parks are OPEN at this time, with social distancing guidance to be applied.

The following facilities and services will also REMAIN CLOSED:

  • Ballymote Sport and Wellbeing Centre and the Newcastle Centre.
  • All Council grass and artificial surfaces/pitches including St Colman’s 3G pitch and running track.
  • All Council pavilions and changing rooms.
  • All classes, sports halls and multi-purpose rooms in all leisure and sports facilities.
  • All recreational swimming and group swimming tuition.
  • All outdoor sports facilities, eg tennis courts and bowling facilities. 

The Council is seeking further clarifications on a number of the new restrictions. At present the above will be in place from Friday 27 November 2020, however will be reviewed in light of any further changes to the regulations. The Council may make changes as it receives further clarification on the restrictions and to allow a timescale for implementation. The Council appreciates anticipated understanding of the present fluid situation.

The Council also appreciates that this is a very worrying time for its customers and all members will be given the appropriate discounts or extensions to their memberships. The Council will email its members with more information.
