A Warrenpoint reader has expressed concern that proposed online consultations by Newry, Mourne and Down Council to discuss the Kilbroney playing fields and pavillion proposals were scrapped.

Four Online Consultation Clinics were proposed on 19, 21, 26 and 28 January but the one scheduled for Tuesday 26 was pulled along with tonights one, Thursday 28. Our reader was informed of this when they tried to register for the event.

The scheme plans to install a new pavillion and upgrade the existing GAA and Soccer pitches at Kilbroney Park. asked the Council for a comment and in their reply they state that the meetings were postponed due to an initial poor uptake but that they will be rescheduled for a later date.

"Newry, Mourne and Down District Council's virtual consultation meeting for Kilbroney Playing Pitches and Pavillion proposals was well attended on the 21 January 2021.

"Further virtual consultation meetings were scheduled for week commencing the 25 January 2021, however due to an initial poor uptake, these virtual consultation meetings have been postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date.

"The Council will hold any request to attend this week’s virtual meetings and contact all of those individuals directly once the new date has been set."

We also requested that details of future consultation events should be notified to the press but this wasn't addressed in the reply which stated that "Information on all the Council’s Public Consultations, to include developments planned for Kilbroney Park, Rostrevor can be viewed within the Councils website. WWW.NEWRYMOURNEDOWN.ORG "
