Police received a report of a robbery at a shop in the Duke Street area of the town around 6.30pm.  The shop was empty when the suspect entered through an open door, brandishing a knife and shouting that he wanted money.  Two women were working in the shop at the time and one of them handed over cash to him while he continued to threaten her with the knife. He then fled the premises.

Detective Constable Elder said: “This was a very upsetting experience for the victims, and occurred in a busy area of the town centre.”

“I would appeal to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the vicinity of Duke Street or Upper Dromore Road/Bridle Loanan areas, as well as East Street/Summer Hill/Orchard Hill areas of Warrenpoint to get in touch with Detectives. I would also appeal to anyone in these areas around this time with Dash Cam footage or CCTV to get in contact.

“Anyone with any information about this incident or who may be able to help with the investigation, is asked to call detectives in Newry on the non-emergency number 101 quoting reference number 1715 16/07/21, or to submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form via WWW.PSNI.POLICE.UK
