During the Líofa Intensive Irish Language Course held at the Gaeláras on Saturday five students undertook the Fáinne Examination.

Máire Uí Ghréacháin and Séamus Ó Gréacháin were both successful at Fáinne Airgid level and three students achieved their Fáinne Óir: Séamus Ó Mocháin, Cáit Ní Bhrolcháin and Rónán Ó Labhraí (Scoil na Mainistreach).

Four of the candidates were tutored by the U3A and one by Roinn na Gaeilge at the Abbey Christian Brothers' Grammar School.

The level of fluency attained in each category was considered exceptionally high by the assessors, Newry Branch Gaelic League.

The Líofa course, run as part of the local Iúr Chinn Fleadh and a wider Líofa campaign, was very successful. Irish Classes for over 16s have resumed at the Gaeláras and information about them can be found at
