Year 10 students from St Paul's High School, Bessbrook recently hosted a discussion on the First World War by former Bessbrook man Teddy Colligan.

The students are planning a visit to Belgium and the Somme in France on a History Collaboration trip with Newtownhamilton High School and St. Joseph’s College Ipswich.

Former Bessbrook resident Mr Colligan, MBE, who was custodian of the Ulster Tower in France for over 15 years spoke to the pupils sharing his knowledge of the area they will be visiting.

Mr Colligan showed the students maps of the area including a map of Thiepval Wood. He also spoke about the key collective roles played by Irish men in the 16th Irish Division as well as the 36th Ulster Division during the First World War.
