Ocean Cruise Liner, Saga Pearl II arrived into Warrenpoint this morning Sunday the 20th of July, becoming the very first commercial cruise to have visited the port. The liner was guided up Carlingford Lough by a flotilla of small crafts and a Tug towed the ship around helping it position itself for docking, which happened shortly before 8am.

A welcoming party greeted the ship on the quayside.

The 15 day Icelandic Explorer tour left Dover taking in the Orkney Island’s, Faroe Island’s and Iceland, leaving Iceland for Warrenpoint on the 17th of July. Tonight the ship heads for Dover, leaving Warrenpoint at 5pm and arriving in Dover at 8am on Tuesday morning.

Many events and activities are planned for today and some passengers have taken bus trips, including a trip to Carlingford.

From 1pm - 5pm at Narrow Water Keep there is a "Time to be Tudor" event. It will involve living history personnel acting out what life would have been like in the castle. There will be cooking, music and dancing as well as a fight team and a 'physician' demonstrating what treatments would have been available at the time.

Also taking place today is the opening of Fiddlers Green Festival, Rostrevor.

It is hoped that the success of this new arrival will lead to more regular callers in the future.
