Production company, Kaleidoscope, has created a very special version of one of the world’s favourite Christmas stories - “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” in order to help raise  much needed funds for the Children’s Cancer Unit.

Kaleidoscope is run by Newry man, Kerry Rooney who explains, “it's been a tough year for everyone really but it's been especially challenging for a lot of great local charities who do some amazing and vital work here in Northern Ireland. We wanted to do something to help one of those organisations. The Children's Cancer Unit Charity does incredible work to help support kids and their families at what is often the most difficult and challenging time in their lives.”

The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity exists to support the work of the Children’s Cancer & Haematology Unit at Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children & their families. The charity was responsible for building the original eight bed unit back in 1987. Since then, the CCUC has extended the unit by adding a further two rooms and helping to fund vital equipment. The Charity provides support with staffing, training and research and provides specialist support services to children and their families.

Felix Mooney, Chairman at the Children’s Cancer Unit Charity said:  “Charities and local support services are facing what is probably the most challenging period in decades. We rely on the generosity of the public, who are all feeling the strain of the pandemic, so this has had a huge impact on our fundraising and ability to support the Children’s Cancer Unit.

“However, we have been overwhelmed by the efforts of so many who have continued to organise virtual events, online campaigns and make donations in aid of the Children’s Cancer Unit Charity. The team at Kaleidoscope have been really creative and innovative in how they’ve supported the Charity this Christmas - encouraging donations, as well as providing an enjoyable experience for families - and we are truly grateful to them for their support.”

Kerry told us why he thinks the story of the Grinch contains the perfect festive message for 2020, “I chose this story because it reminds us that even though the world can sometimes make our hearts shrink a little and make us feel like we'd like to go and live in a cave, the truth is, if you give a little love then it all comes back to you”.
