Slieve Gullion Councillor, Cllr Oonagh Magennis has said that it is important that vital maintenance works for the main Crossmaglen road from Camlough are not placed on the backburner again.

Councillor Magennis was speaking after contacting the DFI section manager about works that were originally pencilled in for 2020.

She said “I had contacted the DFI section manager about works on the B30, Newry to Crossmaglen road after there was still no progress on these works.

“I was informed by the section manager that a number of works they planned to do have been impacted by the legal challenge that DFI is currently facing. However, they are hopeful that part of a new strategy will see 3Km of resurfacing works carried out on the B30 road from the junction with the Mill road to the junction with the Mountain road.

“While I welcome the news that they plan to try and carry out these works, it is imperative that this project is not left on the backburner. The roads in South Armagh are in dire need of repair and the department must ensure that appropriate works are carried out to keep the roads safe and fit for purpose for rural workers and families."
