Planning permission is being sought for a mural highlighting the fact that Celtic legend Willie Maley was born in Newry in 1868. The application has ben made by Greater Linenhall Community Association.

The mural is proposed for the gable of a house on Erskine Place which formed part of the Army Barracks where Celtic's first Manager was born in 1868.
The 5 x 2.5 metre mural will contain Maley's quote "My love for Celtic has been a craze" Without it my existence would be empty indeed."
Willie's father and mother lived in the Barracks in Newry with his father based there as a Sergeant.
In an incredible 43 years as manager Willie Maley led Celtic to 16 league championships and 14 Scottish cups.
