A former Sacred Heart Grammar School student is joining BBC Radio Ulster later this month.

Dearbhail McDonald is to join the Radio Ulster team on Sunday mornings from 27 October presenting her very own programme.

The Newry born award-winning journalist, author and broadcaster will be presenting ‘Sunday With Dearbhail’ on the station from 11am to 1pm, bringing the best of in-depth current affairs, interviews, discussion and analysis, including an essential guide to the Sunday papers.

Dearbhail said: “I am thrilled to be joining BBC NI at such a momentous time politically, socially and culturally. It will be an honour to come home every week for ‘Sunday with Dearbhail’. I’m looking forward to engaging in great conversations from news to sport, culture and beyond.”

‘Sunday With Dearbhail’ begins on October 27 at 11am on BBC Radio Ulster, and will also be available via BBC Sounds.

A global Eisenhower Fellow, Dearbhail is the former Group Business Editor of Independent News And Media, and is a recipient of the Mary Cummins Award for Women of Outstanding Achievement in Media.

Chairperson of the strategic committee of the Centre Cultural Irlandais in Paris, she is a member of the board of Fighting Words, Ireland’s national creative writing centre for children and young adults.

Dearbhail received an inaugural Dublin City University Special Alumni Achievement award for her contribution to public affairs journalism and is an Irish Tatler Media Woman of the Year. 

Dearbhail holds an LL.B (Law) from Trinity College Dublin, as well as a Masters in Journalism from Dublin City University.
