The college took possession of the site in early February from Newry, Mourne and Down Council and it will see the facilities at the present Model campus amalgamated into the site.

Newry Sports Centre opened in the early 1980's and has been derelict since Council moved Sports facilities over to the new Leisure Centre in The Meadow in 2015 in a move that incorporated a new Swimming Pool and sports facilities, on the site of the original Newry Swimming Pool.

It is expected that the demolition will take several weeks. In the short term the site when cleared will be used as a temporary car park for staff and students.
