Newry City Councillor, Michael Savage has welcomed the news that residents in the Carrivemaclone and Newtowncloughoge areas are to get two new playparks.

Last week the Active and Healty Communities Committee meeting at Newry, Mourne and Down District Council agreed to include the two local playparks for major upgrade early in the new financial year.

Councillor Savage said: “ I am delighted, after pushing hard to have these two playparks included for upgrade in the new financial year that the playpark schemes at Carrivemaclone and Newtowncloughoge will go ahead. This will mean that the children of the area will have brand new playparks hopefully in time for the summer holidays.

“This is a great boost for the people of Carrivemaclone and Newtowncloughoge and the people of the area will have a say in what goes into the playparks. Playboard will be carrying out consultation with local residents, schools and groups over the coming months to ensure that their ideas for what will make a great playpark for their area are included in the design."
