From left: Pat Daniels, Martin Cowan, Bridie O’Callaghan (winner) and Tara Cunningham. Congratulations to Bridie O’Callaghan from Bessbrook who is September’s Recycler of the Month. The competition, which is sponsored by the Department of the Environment’s (DOE’s) Rethink Waste campaign in partnership with Newry and Mourne District Council, has £50 up for grabs every month for residents who use of their blue bins correctly.

Bridie said, “With the help of my son Gerard we try to recycle everything we can- including the batteries out of the remote control. We make full use of our blue and brown bin and anything that can’t be recycled in there goes to the Household Recycling Centre in Camlough. I have always been a keen recycler and I’m delighted to win the £50 prize. I will spend it on my 7 grandchildren!”

Tara Cunningham, Recycling Officer for the Council commented, “I would like to congratulate Bridie on her recycling efforts. Residents in the District will soon receive their updated blue bin information, calendar and a bin sticker which includes glass and cartons. The Council will also be embarking on a 4 week communication project with try to encourage more recycling in the District.”
