Newry Councillor Michael Savage has welcomed confirmation that badly needed resurfacing works at The Glen and Cloughoge Heights in the Dublin Road area of the city have been budgeted for in the coming financial year.

Cllr Michael Savage.

Councillor Savage raised the matter in a meeting with Roads Service officials this week and has welcomed the commitment of DFI to include the two schemes in the coming financial year's programme.

He said: "The residents of The Glen and Cloughoge Heights have had to live with a deteriorating road surface for many years now and I have continually lobbied DFI Roads for these improvements and I welcome the commitment from Roads Service to include this much needed resurfacing in the 2021 financial year programme of works.

"There are many potholes in both these developments that have been continually patched but the only long term solution is for large sections if not all of the road to be resurfaced.

"The news that this has been budgeted for in the forthcoming financial year is welcome news. I will continue to lobby Roads Service to ensure that this is delivered as early as possible within the new financial year."
