Newry woman Helena Good has been presented with the Teacher of the Year award in the Tes Further Education Awards 2020.
Helena who now lives in Edinburgh is a former pupil of Sacred Heart Grammar School and the daughter of well know Newry couple Pat and Mary Cunningham.

Helena has worked in education for 23 years and is presently a Graphic Design lecturer at Edinburgh College.
Along with her lecturing at Edinburgh College Helena is a Founding Partner of Daydream Believers, an initiative which brings creative professionals together with secondary school pupils to help them develop essential skills such as creativity, critical thinking and problem solving. Tes formerly known as the Times Educational Supplement, is a weekly UK publication and website for education professionals.
Speaking on why they choose Helena the competition judges said: “Good is an inspirational lecturer. She is a solid professional doing her job outstandingly. Her work is transformative and makes a huge difference within and outside of Edinburgh College.” The judges were also majorly impressed with the Daydream Believers intitative which they called “the most important educational initiative in Scotland at the moment”.
