A man has been stabbed in the leg following an incident in Talbot Street in Newry last night, 24 January. The 41 year was waiting to undergo surgery in hospital this morning.

Detectives investigating the stabbing have made two arrests.

Detective Inspector Trevor Stevenson said: "We were alerted by the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service at 10:35pm to an incident in a house on Talbot Street where a man had been stabbed in his leg.

"Our officers attended the scene where they arrested two men, aged 22 and 35 years old, both on suspicion of attempted murder.

"The male victim, aged 41 years old, was taken to hospital where he remains this morning undergoing surgery.

"The two men we arrested remain in custody as we continue with our enquiries.

"This was a savage attack which has left the victim with life changing injuries, and I want to appeal to anyone who was in the Talbot Street area last night, prior to or around the time the incident was reported to us, to get in touch."
