Newry 2020 in conjunction with Newry.ie are planning a series of articles on why YOU need a Park in Newry.

If you, or someone close to you, have been affected by the lack of access to green space in Newry, we'd love to talk to you, so that we can share your story.

It's time to let our political parties know that they must act without delay to build our City Park at the Albert Basin.

If you'd like to take part send us a private message on  the Newry.ie Facebook or drop us an email to news@newry.ie

Newry is in desperate need of something betterThe town itself is in need of a facelift and a park would be a step in the right direction At times it looks so bad I want to move out and go elsewhere

We need a park in Newry city centre to BREATHE, there is hardly anywhere within the city where u can just Breathe and relax and unwind, be at one with nature. Sit for your lunch hour and take in nature, take a gentle stroll in a relaxing enviorment and destress. Have a picnic or family day out without having to travel and not stay local. Have somewhere relaxing and comforting for children to come to close to home. We need a park for nature to breathe within the city, to bring more wildlife and natural habitats for them to live within. More trees for cleaner air. WE NEED A PARK FULL STOP.

I cannot believe this is still going on! How many ways can the people of Newry say that we not only NEED but DESERVE a park! It’s an absolute disgrace that the council can put their hand out for their wages, when they do little or nothing to support this and other projects. The buck truly stops with them and they should hang their heads in shame. Enough is enough, get this project started and completed as soon as. Pussy footing around putting money into utter nonsense. We .. the people… the tax payer… have had enough of the side stepping. For our children, our elderly neighbours, our pets and our mental health, Make this happen.

We need a park to take ourselves, children, family and pets to. Not only for our fitness but also our mental health. For a city of our size, we have to travel to places not even the quarter the size of Newry to have any type of outdoor recreation. To me this is ridiculous, as it should have happened years ago, and it shows how backward our council is. Not only will the park benefit WE the people of Newry, it will help the economy and the overall look of our city.

In a city the size of Newry it is a disgrace there isn't a decent park, safe outdoor space for families. Unfortunately it would have to be monitored as many people in newry don't or can't appreciate the luxury of a safe outdoor space

We need a park as we have learned how important nature is to our well being and need to be around people, we need a park for our head space, mobility, dogs, kids, teenagers, runners, cyclists. We need a park for fun days, rain days, get out of house days, we need a park to feed the ducks, watch the clouds meet our friend days, parks arent just places. They are our green hearts and eco souls, we need a park is all we should have to say not beg. BRING in innovation and and forward thinking, its a space for craft fayre, concerts, music and a place to put smiles back behind the masks. Just do it as the film. Said, build it and they will come

Urban green spaces such as parks can promote mental and physical well-being and after the year and a half that we’ve all had it would be great to have somewhere on our door step that we could visit, meet friends, take a nice stroll or have a picnic under the trees with family. There is nothing in Newry only pubs, restaurants and bookmakers. If a tourist comes to the town and asks what is good to do here, you usually send them out of town to places like Carlingford and Warrenpoint. The canal in Newry was such an important part of newry’s history, so why not have a beautiful green space highlighting the area that was once the hive of activity, instead of having an abandoned waste ground that makes the town look dirty and grubby. It gives tourists somewhere to relax and explore and hopefully stay a little longer, spending a few extra pounds here rather than somewhere else.

Newry needs a park so it's people can share a beautiful, safe green space. It is an absolute travesty that Newry still does not have a city park. It will need fulltime park wardens to ensure appropriate use of the park. Imagine how life for all Newry residents will be enhanced when this park comes into being. 😊👍🏻

We need a park for people who don’t drive. Or who can’t drive as they have special needs . Our kids have nothing in the town.not a city it’s a town and a joke of one . You can’t call us a city if all we have is pubs and bookers .
