The family of the late John McAvoy of Crobane House, 8 Crobane Road, Newry, who died on 3rd March 2021, wish to acknowledge the many expressions of sympathy and gestures of kindness shown to them following their sad loss. Thérèse, wife, Míchéal & Niamh, children, Bob, son-in-law and Leo & Carla, grandchildren.

Unfortunately, due to Covid Restrictions many people were unable to offer their condolences to us in person, and we have been overwhelmed by the many gestures of kindness and outpouring of sympathy extended through various means during John’s illness, funeral and at the current time. Every text, card, letter, floral tribute and doorstep delivery has brought us much comfort and support, more than words can express. Each memory shared sustained us through these most difficult few weeks.

We thank all the priests and religious who prayed for and attended to John’s pastoral care, in particular Canon Francis Brown who officiated at the Funeral Mass; to Fr. Charles Byrne who assisted at the interment. Special thanks to Fr. Quigley, Chaplain at DHH; to Fr. Brian Fitzpatrick, Chaplain at CAH; to the Sisters of St. Clare, Ashgrove and Glenvale Convents and to Sr. Carmel of The Carmelite Convent, Wexford for their prayers and support.

We are deeply grateful to the medical and nursing staff at E.D., Daisy Hill Hospital and to I.C.U, Craigavon Area Hospital for their excellent care and respect for John during his illness and particularly for their compassion shown to us amidst the most challenging restrictions during the pandemic.

We would especially like to express our deep gratitude to Cathal Murphy, Colm Murphy, Fiona Flynn, Seamus Brady and Kieran McNally for the beautiful music provided at John’s Requiem Mass.

Sincere thanks to all family, friends and neighbours and to our work colleagues from ASEE LTD, St. Catherine’s College, Armagh and The Whistledown Hotel for their support.  We would like to thank Charles Digney & Sons, Funeral Directors for their professional and compassionate handling of all the funeral arrangements for John; to McNally Printers for the beautiful Funeral Mass Booklets; special thanks and appreciation to McAvoy School of Irish Dancing; to all his many friends at Saval GAC and for their support and Guard of Honour along the route and at both St. Colman’s Church, Shinn and St. Joseph’s Church Sheeptown.

To those who helped in any way, your contribution made our loss more bearable. As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgement as an expression of our deepest gratitude.

John’s Month’s Mind Mass will be celebrated on Easter Sunday at 10.30am in St. Colman’s Church, Shinn and will be available to view online on Saval Parish Facebook Live. WWW.FACEBOOK.COM
