Transport Minister Danny Kennedy took time out of his busy schedule to visit Windsor Hill Primary School in Newry last week before the school closes for the summer break.
The Minister was invited by P5-P6 students to find out about the road safety project they had undertaken and to hear their findings about parking and traffic calming in the area.
The Minister heard how the pupils had expressed some concerns about roads in their local area and had decided to carry out some research with a view to improving safety near the school.
The children were able to identify a number of concerns with parking and speed, and presented some of their ideas for solutions to Mr. Kennedy. These included a 10mph speed limit together with speed bumps and a pedestrian priority zone to make the area safer for pupils, and a parking time limit or a parking charge for non-residents.
Mr. Kennedy also took the time to present a group of Primary 7 pupils with their Cycling Proficiency awards!
