Bosco player stars in Down Tyrone game

James Boyle St John Bosco U12 and St Patrick’s Primary School star played at half time in the Cumann na Bunscol team in the recent Down vs. Tyrone match in Pairc Esler.

Whilst the Down team couldn’t find the net on that occasion James had no such bother and with a perfectly measured left foot lob dropped the ball over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

Playing in front of a crowd of 20,000 fans James was unfazed and had a great game ending up scoring 1:01 for his team.

St John Bosco U14 Girls

Monday 26th May 2014 Bosco u14s defeat RGU Downpatrick

The u14 girls got back to league duty on Monday after a five week gap and had a comprehensive victory over the visitors from RGU Downpatrick. First half goals from Orlagh Burke and Aine McCabe together with well taken points from Nicola Downey, Aoibheann Quinn and Treasa McKinley established a comfortable lead at the break.

RGU rallied briefly at the start of the second half but the Bosco girls continued their scoring with further points from Aoibheann Quinn and an excellent goal from Aiofe Magee.

The new midfield pairing of Tara Mallon and Orlagh Burke were excellent and overall this was a great performance from the entire panel.

The u14s are now away to Dundrum on Sunday 1st June at 3.00pm before a home game on 8th June with Teconnaught.

St John Bosco U12 Girls

The under 12 girls will travel to the annual Warrenpoint Tournament on Saturday 31st May to compete with 5 other teams from the local area. The entire panel of 20 will take part in what promises to be a great day for all involved.

St John Bosco U12s

St John Bosco U12 vs Rostrevor Jack Mackin Park Sunday 2nd June

Truly a game of 2 halves – Bosco scoring 3:05 in the first half, keeping Rostrevor scoreless and then failing to register a single score in the 2nd half whilst Rostrevor clocked up 5 points.

Whilst Bosco were playing with the wind at their backs in the first 20 minutes this was not a real contributory factor. The Bosco lads were organised, fought well and took their scores well. Padraig Caldwell starting at full forward scored 2 opportunist goals from spilled balls with Ruarai O’Hare getting Bosco’s third goal with a wonderful shot from almost the half way line that went in over the Rostrevor keeper’s head. Points from Cal MacAnulty, Matthew Monroe, Jack O’Hare and Daniel Preece left the Bosco up by 14 points at the interval.

Rostrevor mentor Aidan Murdock sent out a different Rostrevor team in the second half and they scored 5 points to no response from Bosco. This was due to the Bosco lads losing their shape, poor shooting, going for goal too early and some wonderful saves from the Rostrevor keeper. In fact right at the end of the match Cailum Gray was through on goal and was pulled down. The referee immediately awarded Bosco a penalty and in keeping with the second half this shot went wide of the upright also.

Bosco with 18 players had a strong panel for this game and David McCreesh, Ryan Shields and Ethan McGibben starred in their first full game of the 2014 season.
