East Coast Adventure will be running a free Mountain Bike Safety and Awareness day on the 17th of July at Kilbroney.

With the recent development of mountain bike trails in Northern Ireland there has been a significant increase of people taking up the sport. Mounting Biking is especially attractive to young people providing them with a fantastic opportunity to get outdoors away from busy roads and enjoy the fantastic natural and manmade resources that are free for us to use at the Rostrevor Mountain Bike Trails.

For inexperienced riders or newcomers to the sport it can be daunting trying to decide what is the best equipment to use and if the old bike that’s been at the back of the garage for the past 10 year is fit for purpose. East Coast Adventure the new official Mountain Bike provider in Rostrevor Trails are constantly being presented with bikes that are not fit for trail use, faulty or set up entirely wrong. This can turn what should be an enjoyable experience in the great outdoors into wasted day walking a broken bike back to the car or worse, a trip to A&E.

East Coast Adventure is here to help! In a bid to promote good practice on the trails they will be running a free Mountain Bike safety and awareness day on the 17th July from 2pm – 9pm. There will be advice on where to ride, what to buy, setting your bike up, what to carry and what to do if it goes wrong. You can also bring along your bike and get advice on whether or not it’s suitable and safe or even just set up correctly.

Ian Cumming:  director of East Coast Adventure says:" we are constantly being presented with bikes not fit for purpose. I’m appealing to everyone especially parents who have kids interested in getting into the sport to come along to the safety day. We are fully committed to making Mountain biking a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone young and old.

Mayor of Newry & Mourne District Council, Councilor Michael Ruane said "On behalf of Newry & Mourne District Council we are particularly pleased to support the promotion of this very important initiative being organised by East Coast Adventure, recently appointed by the Council to provide visitor services at the trail head.  This is a great opportunity to get some important advice and information and we encourage as many people as possible to avail of this.  In addition MountainBikeNI.com will be delivering an on line education message, so if you are not able to attend this event, I would encourage you to visit www.mountainbikeni.com or follow them on Facebook for the latest information to assist with your safety on the trails.

To maximise your experience and safety, the Council would remind everyone using the trails to take the time to read the signs and information available and purchase an official trail card at £2 which can be used on all your return visits to the Rostrevor Mountain Bike Trails".
