DUBLIN GRADED SERIES MEET - TALLAGHT

Three Newry AC athletes travelled to Tallaght on Wednesday to compete in the final meet of the series. They thankfully left the torrential rain behind in the North and were greeted with 21 degrees and sunshine in Dublin. Club Junior Meadow McCauley, Senior Sarah Jane Beattie and Master Joanne McCauley all entered the 400m race. All athletes had a great 400m race battling a -4 headwind on the home straight. . Meadow completed in 63:67 (3rd) SJ 67:05 & Joanne 68:53. All athletes were pleased with their results as the athletics seasons draws to a close.


CRAWFORDSBURN 5K TRAIL RACE

Also, on Wednesday evening Lee Maginnis travelled North to Crawfordsburn Country Park to complete in the annual 5k trail race. In warm conditions Lee had a good run winning the M40 Category and finishing 8th overall in a time of 19:11.

BRITISH MASTERS ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS, ALEXANDER STADIUM, BIRIMINGHAM

Joanne McCauley travelled to Birmingham to complete in the British Masters Athletics Championships. This is a highly competitive event with athletes representing clubs throughout the UK and visitors from Ireland and Europe attending.

On Saturday the weather conditions were atrocious with strong winds and heavy rain. Joanne was placed 2nd in the High Jump, 4th in the Long Jump; 3rd in her 100m heat, finishing 8th overall and 9th overall in her 400m. On Sunday morning, the weather was slightly better but still windy with rain. Joanne competed in the 200m where she placed 4th in her heat, missing out on the finals by 100th of a second, and thus placed 8th overall and happy as she obtained a new PB.

DATE FOR THE MOUNTAIN RUNNING CALENDAR - 'DAN WHITE’S DANDER’ - 31ST AUGUST 2019

Newry AC in conjunction with NIMRA have organised a 6 mile mountain race to include Slieve Martin and Knockshee ON SATURDAY 31ST AUGUST and sponsored by Mulvaney Corporate Services.

Registration is through WWW.NIMRA.ORG.UK or on the day between 09:30-10:30with a start time of 11AMfrom the Big Stone Car Park in Kilbroney Park, Rostrevor. Get entering with what will be a great day of mountain running on a fabulous route with prizes and refreshments.
