Run in Africa

SGR duo of Robbie Marsh and Eamon Murphy proudly presented  the Slieve Gullion Runners when both men travelled to Africa to take on marathons in Uganda and South Africa. Robbie was first up  running in the Uganda International Marathon. The country’s biggest annual race where 5000+ people run up and down the many hills, through rolling terrain and some of Uganda’s most stunning scenery were Robbie finished in a great time of 00:4:52, Robbie was also a busy man helping and supporting projects in Uganda for the full week with the Uganda Foundation in the village of Masaka at the children's School.

Eamon Murphy  once again battle the comrades Ultra Marathon in South Africa on Sunday 9th June . Eamon who took on the event only last year ,took part in what is called the "up run" of this event this year and a far harder course with the many hills on route, that all starts at the City Hall in Durban and finishing at the Scottsville Racecourse in Pietermaritzburg. The race distance was approximately 87km and Eamon proudly finished in a great time of 11:05:36 and was given two medals. One for completing this year. The Vic Clapham medal. The second medal is presented for completing the back to back in consecutive years The club are extremely proud of both runners and their hard training all paid off.

26Extreme say they don’t do easy, but there’s always someone to rise to the challenge! In this case over 500 athletes taking on the various Mourneway Marathon distances from Ultra through to Challenge Walk.

A week of rain leading up to the race rendered the course even more mucky and muddy than usual, as if the hills were not challenge enough!
Robbie Marsh continues his excellent form and charged through the trails of the 52 mile ultra route, from Kilbroney at 6am all the way to Newcastle - and back again - in an outstanding 12hrs:16:41 looking strong, only a week after the Uganda Marathon and a tough 3 weeks of training. Cathal O Brien (05hrs:38:17), Kevin McSherry & Ciaran McSherry (together at :05hrs:50) represented SGR in the  Marathon while Martin McShane (02hrs:10:00) and Elaine McCann (03hrs:10:) completed the half marathon. Eugene McCrink rounded off SGR representation at all distances by completing the 10k in 55min.

Taking on Glenmore 10 Mile Challenge

Well done to SGR duo of Joe Winters and Ciarán Savage who took to the country roads of Carlingford on Saturday,in what is a very grueling and demanding course, both runners ran in the 10 miler event and came away with very impressive times. Well done to our friends at Glenmore A.C on an excellent event and well done to a good friend of the club Eimear McCracken on winning the womens 10 miler.

Team Muckian travelled south to Co. Meath on Friday night to one of the best 5k races in the country, Bohermeen 5k
A popular event with over 400 runners racing to the finish line. Dad Brian Muckian not giving in to the pressure and staying just ahead of his boys across the finish line in what was a speedy race from all three men! Well done lads!! Great running!
