The Festival has has been extended and will run for ten nights instead of the usual nine nights. This is because of the large number of entries received from top Drama Societies who want to play in Newry.

Festival chairman Gerry McNulty expressed his delight at the number of Drama Groups who have chosen to perform Comedy for this year’s Festival Circuit.

Six of the ten Plays chosen are comedy- so the 2014 event should be a real “Festival of Fun”

Maureen Grant, who looks after Public Relations and Sponsorship for the Festival, said that it was her pleasant task to thank the Sponsors for their continued support and loyalty to this great Annual Theatrical Event.

She began by thanking the Main Sponsor, the QUAYS Shopping Centre, Newry.  She said that through Manager, Cathal Austin and his Deputy Colin Kavanagh, the Festival has again received generous financial and moral support.

This financial assistance ensures that the Festival can still live up to its high reputation as one of the best Festivals in Ireland. The Newry Festival is renowned for looking after the visiting groups by way of expenses and hospitality.

The event has long enjoyed the excellent backing of the Business and Professional people of the District whose names appear in the Souvenir Programme.

The Nightly Sponsors were also applauded. Their contributions greatly assist with the expenses of the visiting Groups.

Maureen also said that it is also most gratifying to see the multinationals giving their backing to the Festival.

These include - Sainsbury’s, Marks & Spencer  and Tesco.

She paid tribute to the Season Ticket holders who attend the performances year after year without fail and enjoy the social scene.

Maureen expressed her sincere appreciation of the Press for their long-standing association with the Festival and their unfailing coverage of the event.

Finally she encouraged the public to come along to Newry Town Hall, sit back and enjoy the ten nights of Theatre.
