The Mayor of Newry & Mourne District Council, Councillor Daire Hughes officiated at the official opening of the Madden Gallery in Newry recently.

Madden Gallery, founded in 2014 by director and professional artist, Stephen Madden, is developing into one of Newry & Mourne’s leading art galleries, specialising in painting and sculpture. 

Stephen Madden (b. 1985) is a Newry-based artist, an MFA graduate of the University of Ulster (achieving distinction), an undergraduate of The Cooper Union in New York City and a past pupil of The Art Students League of New York, studying classical painting and stone sculpture.   He has exhibited his work in various galleries, both nationally and internationally and has received several awards throughout his artistic career, including The Alice Berger Hammerschlag Award; The Tam Prize for Excellence in Fine Arts; Full-tuition Scholarship to The Cooper Union; Director's Scholarship to The Art Students League, Winner of GCSE A. Level, Arts Society of Ulster Award 2004 and Best in Subject GCSE 2001 Art. His work is included in public and private collections throughout Ireland, Australia, the U.K. and the U.S.

Madden Gallery is located at the Granite House in the heart of Newry City and its principal focus is reviving the visual arts throughout the community. Showcasing a remarkable art collection, ranging from super-realistic painting to abstract sculpture, the gallery thrives in building a reputation as an integral part of Newry’s cultural development.

Madden Gallery is committed to promoting the most exceptional artwork and offers a wide range of creative services, including commission-based artworks, in which selected artists execute custom-made drawings, paintings and sculptures to a high quality, based on the clients vision. Other services offered include picture-framing, art-leasing, international delivery and installation.
